Oklahoma Attorney General Challenges EPA's Clean-Air Plan After Rate Hike Proposed

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt has filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency, claiming the federal agency's proposed Clean Power Plan will threaten the reliability and affordability of power in the state.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday in federal court in Tulsa argues that the EPA is exceeding its authority and asks a court to grant an injunction prohibiting the EPA from regulating coal-fired electricity plants in Oklahoma.

Pruitt argues the EPA is ignoring the authority of states to regulate power plant emissions at their source and that the Clean Power Plan is an attempt to "shutter coal-fired power plants and eventually other sources of fossil-fuel generated electricity."

Pruitt campaigned on pushing back against the federal government and has filed numerous lawsuits challenging what he claims is government overreach.
