The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the first-degree murder conviction and life sentence of a man charged with helping plan an armed robbery at a south Oklahoma City pharmacy in which a teenage accomplice was shot to death by a pharmacist who was also convicted of first-degree murder.
The court on Friday unanimously upheld the conviction of 38-year-old Emanuel "E man" Mitchell. Mitchell's original 2011 conviction was overturned.
Mitchell and a co-defendant, 50-year-old Anthony "Black" Morrison, were convicted of helping plan the robbery in which 16-year-old Antwun Parker was shot to death by 64-year-old pharmacist Jerome Ersland, who was also convicted of murder.
Ersland claimed he acted in self-defense, but prosecutors say he went too far when he fired several bullets into the unconscious teen's body.
