OKC Award Goes to Pakistani Girl Shot by Taliban
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum will honor a 15-year-old Pakistani girl who was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman and her father, a human rights activist who founded an all-girls school in Pakistan.
The 2013 Reflections of Hope Award will be bestowed Monday to Malala Yousafzai and her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai. He will accept the award on his and his daughter's behalf on his first trip to the United States since the October assassination attempt on Malala, who is receiving medical treatment in Great Britain.
The assassination attempt sparked outrage in Pakistan and many other countries and her story has captured global attention for the struggle for women's rights in her homeland.
The memorial honors the 168 victims of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
