Oil Field Explosion

By Associated Press

Kiefer, OK – 2 men burned in Okla. fuel tank explosion

KIEFER, Okla. (AP) Authorities say two men were badly burned when a fuel-storage tank they were repairing blew up in Kiefer.

Creek County Sheriff's Sgt. Charles Redfern said Wednesday the two men, who weren't immediately identified, were flown by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital.

Redfern says one of the men had burns over 80 percent of his body, and the other man also was badly burned. He didn't know their conditions.

The explosion happened around 10:45 a.m. while the two were using cutting torches on the tank.

Redfern says there were fuel fumes coming off the tank, which ignited on the cutting torch that the men were using. He says the explosion is still being investigated.
