Officer Involved Shooting

Tulsa, OK – From Tulsa Police:
On October 15, 2009 at 11:05 p.m., a Tulsa Police Officer was involved in a shooting at the corner of East Oklahoma and North Urbana Avenue. The incident started at 11:03 p.m., when the patrol officer attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of 1200 N. Allegheny. The officer observed one of the occupants throw an unknown object out of the vehicle. The officer activated his emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver refused to stop the vehicle and sped away. A short pursuit ensued at this time. The suspect lost control of the vehicle at the corner of E. Oklahoma and N. Urbana Avenue. The vehicle slammed into an unoccupied parked vehicle at this location. The officer exited his patrol car and was approaching the suspect vehicle from the rear when the driver put the vehicle in reverse and attempted to assault/hit the officer with the vehicle. At this time the officer fired multiple rounds at the driver in an attempt to stop the suspect from hitting him. The driver, a 37 yoa male was hit multiple times in the upper torso and was transported to St. John Hospital. The driver's condition is not known at this time. The suspect's vehicle was occupied by two additional individuals, a 17 yoa male & a 13 yoa male. These subject was transported to the Detective Division for questioning. The names of the officer and the suspect have not been released pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
