Wagoner, OK – Okla. prosecutor clears officers in fatal shooting

WAGONER, Okla. (AP) The Wagoner County District Attorney's office has cleared two Wagoner police officers who fatally shot a Coweta man last week.

District Attorney Brian Kuester said Friday that officers Jamie Powell and Kevin Higginbottom were justified in shooting 59-year-old Charles Hundley Aug. 16 at a McDonald's on U.S. Highway 69.

The officers were responding to a report of a disturbance at the restaurant when then encountered Hundley armed with a knife in the parking lot. Authorities say Higginbottom and Powell fired when Hundley attacked them.

Hundley was struck in the abdomen and transported to Wagoner Community Hospital, where he died.

Both officers have been on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
