Oklahoma Ciry, OK – Oklahoma tribe gets $109,000 for nutrition program

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded a grant to an Oklahoma Native American tribal nutrition education program through its Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR).

USDA officials say the Chickasaw Nation will receive $109,435 to expand the "Recipes Wrapped in Love" project, which allows families to develop and test new recipes that feature whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

Officials say the recipes will be incorporated into a Recipes Wrapped in Love toolkit that will be distributed to 5,000 participants in the food distribution program.

FDPIR is among 15 nutrition assistance programs overseen by the Agriculture Department's Food and Nutrition Service.
