Tulsa, OK – Today we speak with Dr. Tanya Paul, the Ruth G. Hardman Curator of European Art at Philbrook, who tells us about an exciting new exhibition now on view at the museum. It's a wonderful collection of 70+ works by European artists who flourished in the 17th and 18th centuries. "Magnificent Vision: Two Centuries of European Masterworks from the Speed Art Museum" includes paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Tiepolo, Gainsborough, and other greats, and it will run at the Philbrook Museum of Art through January 8th, 2012. Dr. Paul also previews an upcoming "Secrets of the Old Masters" lecture that will be given by painting conservator and artist Brian Baade, who not only studies and preserves masterworks from previous centuries but also reconstructs them using historically accurate techniques. (Baade's event at Philbrook happens on December 3rd at 2pm.) Also, Dr. Paul herself will give a lecture at Philbrook, "Invention and Refinement in European Painting," on December 14th at noon; this talk will note the ways in which European artists adapted to new markets and created new genres from approximately 1600 to 1800.
