Now at Philbrook: "American Streamlined Design: The World of Tomorrow"
By Rich Fisher
Tulsa, Oklahoma – On today's show, we're discussing a new exhibit at the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, "American Streamlined Design: The World of Tomorrow," which will be on view through May 15th. As a form of decorative as well as industrial design that pervaded this country's landscape --- as well as its marketplace, its media, and its imagination --- throughout the 1930s and '40s, the "streamlined" look was one of speed, aerodynamic sleekness, modernity, futurism, and clean, propulsive lines. Our guest on today's program is Chris Kallenberger, director of exhibitions and programs for Philbrook, who tells us that this far-ranging exhibit features more than 180 objects.
