No New Firearms Trial for Shannon Kepler

Tulsa County Booking Photo

A judge has denied a former Tulsa police officer's request for a new trial on firearms convictions in connection with the shooting death of his daughter's boyfriend.

The motion by Shannon Kepler was rejected Thursday by District Judge Sharon Holmes.

Kepler was convicted of two counts of reckless conduct with a firearm and sentenced to six months in jail on each count for a total of one year.

Kepler's attorney argued that the two counts should be merged into one, but Holmes said testimony showed he pointed the gun at two different people.

Kepler was convicted in connection with the August 2014 shooting death of 19-year-old Jeremey Lake, but the jury couldn't reach a unanimous verdict on a first-degree murder charge.

He's to be retried on the murder charge in February.
