Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. parole board denies clemency for inmate
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board has voted against recommending clemency for a death-row inmate convicted in the 1995 killing of a Tulsa convenience store clerk.
The board voted 3-2 Wednesday in the case of Billy D. Alverson.
Alverson is one of four men found guilty of first-degree murder in the beating death of 30-year-old Richard Yost during a robbery. Three of those men received death sentences and one, Darwin Brown, was executed in January 2009.
Alverson told the five-member panel that if he could take back what happened, he would.
Yost's widow, Angela Houser-Yost, said after the vote that she's one step closer to everything being over. She hugged Alverson's sister and brother, who spoke on his behalf.
Alverson's execution is scheduled for Jan. 6.
