On the Next Presentation of All This Jazz, We're "Live at Birdland"

Please tune in for the next installment of All This Jazz, beginning at 10pm Central on Saturday the 2nd, right here on Public Radio 89.5-1. We'll also offer, as ever, a re-broadcast of ATJ on Sunday the 3rd (at 7pm) on Jazz 89.5-2, which is Public Radio Tulsa's terrific all-jazz HD Radio channel.

Each and every week, our program delivers modern jazz, both recent and classic, right up 'til midnight --- and in the second half of the show, again as ever, we offer a "theme" for our proceedings.

This time out, our second-hour All This Jazz theme will be "Live at Birdland" --- and so we'll present several standout recordings that were captured in live performance at the famous New York City jazz club known as Birdland. We'll hear from the likes of Dave Holland, Barbara Carroll, Enrico Pieranunzi, and other greats. Join us!

(PS: We were sorry to learn, earlier today, of the death of Frank Wess. The wonderful saxophonist, flutist, composer, and bandleader was 91; we've played his music often on this program, and we absolutely plan --- and pledge --- to continue doing so. Next week's edition of ATJ, therefore, is sure to have a few of his pieces on the playlist, including music from the fine CD that Wess released earlier this year: "Music 101," which is on the IPO label.)

Scott Gregory started working at Public Radio Tulsa in 2006; he started listening to public radio circa 1980, when he and NPR both marked their tenth birthdays (although only one of them commemorated the occasion with a party at Skate World). Scott became this radio station's Operations Director in the summer of 2023; he also hosts and programs All This Jazz, which airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5-1 from 9pm till midnight.
