On the Next ATJ: Some Outsanding Jazz Albums of 2014 (So Far)
Please join us for the next broadcast of All This Jazz, beginning at 10pm Central on Saturday the 12th --- right here on Public Radio 89.5 (KWGS-FM)...and "live streaming" online at PublicRadioTulsa.org.
In the first half of our two-hour program, we'll hear from the likes of Billy Eckstine (who would have turned 100 earlier this week) and Bucky Pizzarelli, among many others. And for our second-hour theme, we'll check out a host of terrific jazz albums that've been released thus far in 2014, including "Mutations" (ECM) by Vijay Iyer, "Enjoy the View" (Blue Note) by Bobby Hutcherson, "Kin" (Nonesuch) by the Pat Metheny Unity Group, and "Icons and Influences" (HighNote) by George Cables (shown here).
It'll be jolly good fun, jazz fans. And ever so tuneful. Hope you can tune in.
(The fine print: All This Jazz airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5, from 10pm until midnight. We always thereafter offer a 7pm re-airing of the program on Sunday evening, on Jazz 89.5-2, which is our station's all-jazz HD Radio channel. Each week, we spin modern jazz, both recent and classic, across a range of styles. And the second half of our program, beginning at 11pm, invariably carries a theme. Also, for those of you so inclined: All This Jazz now has a Facebook page.) Postscript: We were very sorry to learn (on late Friday afternoon, the 11th) of the death of Charlie Haden, the great jazz bassist, composer, and bandleader. He gave a tremendous amount of wonderful music to the world, and did so for many years; he will be dearly missed by jazz fans everywhere.
