On the Next ATJ, Jazz Tunes Penned in Tribute to the Greats of This Music

"The Duke" by Dave Brubeck. "In Walked Bud" by Thelonious Monk. "Django" by John Lewis. "Bessie's Blues" by John Coltrane. "Jelly Roll" by Charles Mingus. "I Remember Clifford" by Benny Golson. (This last-named piece written, of course, in honor of Clifford Brown, shown here.)

If you know the modern jazz repertoire, then you know that many wonderful themes have been composed over the years in tribute to this music's outstanding practitioners.

With the arrival of April --- which is, among many other things, National Jazz Appreciation Month --- the second-hour theme on the next edition of All This Jazz will be "Tunes in Tribute to the Greats of Jazz."

We'll hear from the likes of Phil Woods, Luciana Souza, Muhal Richard Abrams, Joe Lovano, and Christian McBride --- and the fun-fest starts at precisely 10pm Central on Saturday the 6th, right here on Public Radio 89.5-1.

It's modern jazz, both recent and classic. It's All This Jazz. Join us.

Scott Gregory started working at Public Radio Tulsa in 2006; he started listening to public radio circa 1980, when he and NPR both marked their tenth birthdays (although only one of them commemorated the occasion with a party at Skate World). Scott became this radio station's Operations Director in the summer of 2023; he also hosts and programs All This Jazz, which airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5-1 from 9pm till midnight.
