District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler takes the oath of office.

New Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler took the oath of office Wednesday — for the third time.

Kunzweiler was sworn in Friday afternoon by Judge William Kellough. He took the oath again Monday with the rest of the state’s DA’s at the state capitol. Kunzweiler said taking it in front of friends, family and community leaders was special.

"I think what's really important is for your community to share in that process, so I wanted to do something for all these people who have supported me," Kunzweiler said.

It was a light-hearted affair. Court staff played the famous sound effect from "Law & Order" in the courtroom and said it will play every time Kunzweiler steps up to the microphone from now on.

Kunzweiler joked he’s waited a long time for former District Attorney Tim Harris to retire, but says he wants to honor Harris’ work.

"He has shepherded us through 16 years of a lot of issues, like methamphetamine, serial rapists and budget shortfalls," Kunzweiler said. "I'm confident we're going to see a lot of different things that maybe we wouldn't have expected, and I hope to just follow in his footsteps and do the best job I can to serve our community."

Court of Civil Appeals Judge Keith Rapp administered the oath.
