New State GOP Leader

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. GOP elects Tulsan new state party chairman

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Republican Party has elected Matt Pinnell (pih-NELL') of Tulsa as its new chairman.

Pinnell was the only candidate for the post and was elected during a meeting Saturday in Oklahoma City. He succeeds Gary Jones who is resigning to run for state Auditor and Inspector.

The 30-year-old Pinnell says his goal is to show voters that Republicans are the best choice in the November elections. He declined to say if he has targeted any particular race such as that for governor as the highest priority.

Democratic Gov. Brad Henry cannot run for re-election because of term limits.

Republicans currently hold both U.S. Senate seats from Oklahoma, four of the five U.S. House seats and control both the state House and Senate.
