Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma City charity names interim president

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The retired chief executive officer of the American Heart Association has been named interim president of Feed The Children.

Cass Wheeler's appointment was announced Wednesday by the Oklahoma City-based hunger relief organization's board chairman, Rick England.

The charity has been plagued by legal wrangling and discord since it fired founder Larry Jones in 2009. England says officials hope Wheeler's hiring will help restore the organization's reputation for helping people.

He says Wheeler, who lives near Austin, Texas, will split his time as a consultant between the charity's Oklahoma City headquarters and his home office.

Wheeler was CEO of the American Heart Association from 1997 to 2008.

He says one of his first priorities will be to start developing a strategic plan for Feed The Children.
