Near Record Memorial Day Weekend Travel Expected

AAA

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The AAA says more Oklahomans are expected to head out of town this Memorial Day weekend than last year.

AAA Oklahoma expects that 657,500 residents will travel over Memorial Day, which is an increase of 1.3 percent from the year before. Auto travel is predicted to be up by 1.6 percent and air travel is projected to be up by 0.6 percent.

Oklahomans will enjoy gas prices that are more than 40 cents cheaper per gallon this Memorial Day than in 2015. The AAA says the average price Thursday for a gallon of unleaded gas in Oklahoma was $2.04, while the national average was $2.26.

Nationally, about 38 million Americans are expected to travel over Memorial Day, which is the highest number since 2005.
