"NATO: In Search of a Strategic Concept"

Tulsa, Oklahoma – On this edition of StudioTulsa, we're discussing the North Atlantic Treaty Organization --- a collective which began with twelve member-states and now numbers twenty-eight, and which has clearly outgrown its original mission or purpose, but which also remains vitally important on the world stage. Yes, more and more nations are joining this collective, but what exactly is the role of NATO today --- or rather, what should that role be? Our guest is Dr. Gale A. Mattox, Professor of Political Science at the U.S. Naval Academy. Last week, Dr. Maddox gave an address to the Tulsa Committee on Foreign Relations entitled "NATO: In Search of a Strategic Concept." (We spoke with her while she was in town.) Dr. Maddox is an award-winning scholar, writer, and editor whose works include, both as a co-author, "Enlarging NATO: The National Debates" (2001) and "Evolving European Defense Policies" (1987). She's also appeared on public television's "Lehrer News Hour" as well as other media outlets.
