Oklahoma City, OK – Testimony to resume in Oklahoma bribery charges
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Testimony is scheduled to resume in a preliminary hearing that will determine whether a state legislator and a former state senator should stand trial on felony bribery charges.
Rep. Randy Terrill of Moore and ex-Sen. Debbe Leftwich of Oklahoma City will return to Oklahoma County District Court on Friday.
Prosecutors allege Terrill, a Republican, offered Leftwich, a Democrat, an $80,000-a-year job at the state Medical Examiner's Office. They say in exchange, Leftwich wouldn't seek re-election so a colleague of Terrill's could run for her seat.
The colleague, Rep. Mike Christian, wasn't charged with a crime. He didn't run for Leftwich's Senate seat and instead won a second term in the House.
Terrill and Leftwich have denied any wrongdoing and could face up to 10 years in prison if they're convicted.
