Oklahoma City, OK – 3 more flu deaths reported in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Influenza-related illnesses are still making a mark in Oklahoma, as health authorities report three more deaths, bringing the total number this season to 15.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported Thursday that one of the deaths came in the 0 to 18 age group and occurred in Jefferson County. The other deaths came in the 19-64 group in Marshall County and in the 65 and older group in Tulsa County.

Health officials say 797 hospitalizations have been reported to the agency since Sept. 1, and 48 percent of those have occurred among children 18 and younger.

Since Sept. 1, 344 of 470 specimens tested by the Health Department have been positive for influenza. Of those, 67.2 percent were positive for Type A, 3.2 percent were positive for swine flu and 29.7 percent were Type B.
