Mistaken Calls and Dropped Balls; A Saturday College Football Review

KWGS News File photo

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — The referee for the Central Michigan-Oklahoma State game admitted that officials mistakenly awarded an untimed final play to the Chippewas, which they used to score a miraculous winning touchdown to beat the Cowboys 30-27 Saturday. Oklahoma State was penalized for intentional grounding on its final offensive play, which is a loss of down penalty. Rules state that the game cannot end on an accepted live-ball penalty, referee Tim O'Dey of the Mid-American Conference said.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State overcame a sluggish offensive start, a lightning delay and a driving rainstorm in the second half to beat Tulsa 48-3 Saturday night. After piling up a school-record 776 yards of offense last week against Bowling Green, Ohio State didn't score an offensive touchdown against Tulsa until quarterback J.T. Barrett ran in from 16 yards in the third quarter.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Baker Mayfield passed for 244 yards and three touchdowns in a half of work and Number 14 Oklahoma beat Louisiana-Monroe 59-17 Saturday night in a warmup for its showdown with Ohio State. OU lost its opener to Houston and fell from Number 3 to 14th in the AP poll, but its home matchup with fourth-ranked Ohio State next week offers a chance to return to its place among the nation's top teams.
