Metropolitan Environmental Trust Collecting Used Cooking Oil November 29th

KWGS News

Cleaning up after Thanksgiving dinner can be a hassle, but make sure you are doing it properly. Some people do not know that improper cooking oil disposal can cause major drainage issues that affect not only sewage but the environment as well.

The City of Tulsa and the Metropolitan Environmental Trust will be hosting an event on Sunday, November 29th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Central M.E.T. Recycling Center to help Tulsa citizens dispose of their leftover oils safely.

Graham Brannin from the M.E.T. says this time of year can be particularly problematic for sewage. Fats, oils, and grease can clog sewer lines which can lead to damage in rivers or streams and costly plumbing bills. Remember to collect any meat dripping and other greasy leftovers and dispose of them in the trash, not down the drain.
