Tulsa, OK – Memorial service set for former Tulsa linebacker

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The University of Tulsa will hold a memorial service for a former football player who died after participating in an unsanctioned boxing event at a church.

The service for George Clinkscale is scheduled for noon Tuesday in the Sharp Chapel on campus.

Clinkscale was billed as the main event Wednesday at Fight Night VI, sponsored by GUTS Church.

The Oklahoma State Athletic Commission is investigating the bout because the event was not sanctioned. Results of the probe will be forwarded to the state Attorney General's office.

The 24-year-old Clinkscale was a linebacker for the Golden Hurricane from 2005 to 2009. He played and started all 12 games as a senior and was credited with 34 tackles.

A memorial fund has been established at Bank of Oklahoma branches.
