Members of McAlester Board Consider Superintendent's Firing

McAlester Public Schools

McALESTER, Okla. (AP) — Members of the McAlester school board are hearing evidence that could lead to the dismissal of the district's superintendent, who has been suspended with pay amid allegations she spent school money on personal items.

A hearing opened Tuesday and resumed Thursday. Panel members said they would meet Friday and again Saturday, if necessary.

The McAlester News-Capital reports that an auditor hired by the district said Superintendent Marsha Gore had used a school credit card for personal use. Two district finance department employees said Thursday that Gore told them to never contact the state Department of Education about their concerns and that they should never ask questions at state training sessions.

The board also wants to fire Gore's husband Skip, the district's plant operations manager.

The Gores deny the allegations.
