Meet Jody Raphael --- the noted author, sociologist, and Senior Research Fellow at the DePaul University College of Law.

Tulsa, Oklahoma – Today, a chat with Jody Raphael. She's widely respected as an expert on American women's issues and experiences, especially as these relate to domestic violence, poverty, welfare, and drug abuse. Thus Raphael will be the keynote speaker at the Resonance Center for Women's 30th Annual Brunch on Thursday of this week --- that's March 26th; here in Tulsa; at the Downtown Doubletree Hotel. (Call 918-587-3888 for more information.) We spoke recently with Raphael by phone. She has been the executive director of the Center for Impact Research in Chicago since 1994. While doing so, she was the first researcher to establish a direct connection between domestic violence and welfare receipt. She also works as a Senior Research Fellow at the DePaul University College of Law --- and her acclaimed trilogy of books in the Northwestern University Press Gender, Crime, and Law series includes the books "Freeing Tammy: Women, Drugs, and Incarceration;" "Listening to Olivia: Violence, Poverty, and Prostitution;" and "Saving Bernice: Battered Women, Welfare, and Poverty."
