Meet Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate and The Norman Philharmonic on Performance Oklahoma

The Norman Philharmonic, established as an innovative and standard-setting chamber orchestra for the city of Norman in 2011, seeks among its many goals to perform new works by American composers, as well as chamber orchestra classics and to offer a variety of imaginative concerts each season. Composer JerodImpichchaachaaha’ Tate was the featured guest artist of the Philharmonic, who offered their fourth Meet the Composer series residency of rehearsals and educational presentations culminating in a special concert presented on Sunday, January 18th at the Nancy O’Brian Center for the Performing Arts in Norman.

In the concert marking the start of their fourth season, the Philharmonic offered two works by Mr. Tate; Hymn from Lowak Shoppala' and Tracing Mississippi with guest flutist Patricia Surman, as well as Beethoven’s Fidelio Overture, the Tuba Concerto of Edward Gregson featuring the ensemble's principal tubaist Brian Dobbins, and the Norman Anthem commissioned by the city of Norman and written by Libby Larsen, the first guest artist of the orchestra's composer residencies. The program also includes commentary from Mr. Tate, the guest artists and the Philharmonic's music and artistic director Richard Zielinski!

Performance Oklahoma is heard each Saturday evening at 8pm on Classical 88.7-1!
