McAlester Superintendent Fired Amid Spending Allegations

McAlester Public Schools

McALESTER, Okla. (AP) — The McAlester school board has fired the district's superintendent amid allegations she spent school money on personal items.

The McAlester News-Capital reports the panel said late Saturday that it was dismissing Marsha Gore because of violations of policy regarding credit card usage and personal spending. The vote was 4-0.

Attorney Bill Ervin, who represented the district, says "the evidence justified the board's decision." The newspaper says Gore and her attorney, Joe E. White, declined comment after the decision.

Gore had been suspended with pay since November.

Board members spent much of the day Saturday deliberating whether to fire Gore.

Gore's husband Skip, the district's suspended plant operations manager, will face a termination hearing Feb. 12 and 13 related to his alleged involvement.

The Gores have denied the allegations.
