Man Shot to Death By Tulsa Police

KWGS News

A man is shot to death by Tulsa Police on Friday afternoon near 3rd and South Utica. Police say the man was 58-years-old and had been approaching people on the sidewalk while holding a knife.

When officers arrived, the man was instructed to put down the knife. The man did not comply. After several attempts officers used a taser on the man. Some witnesses say he pulled out the taser dart. He was then shot and killed.  The two officers who fired their service weapons have been placed on leave while the case is investigated.

Police have not released any names. Witnesses believe the man was under the influence of drugs or liquor.

EDITOR'S NOTE: It is the policy of KWGS News, not to identify a person by race, unless that fact is germane to the story. When put into context of the recent police shootings of Black men, both locally and nationally, we will make an exception to that policy. The man shot in the story above was Caucasian.
