Man, Claiming to Have Bomb, Closes South Lewis

Google Street View

One person is in custody after a bomb scare closed a major Tulsa street during the morning rush on Thursday.

Tulsa Police got a call shortly before daybreak about a man standing on an apartment complex dumpster. He was telling anyone who would listen he had a bomb.

When police arrived, the man repeated his claim of being armed with an explosive device. Taking no chances, police sealed off the area. That meant closing down South Lewis Avenue near 5th Street.

After refusing to surrender, the man jumped from the dumpster and took a swing at officers. He was shot by police with taser and taken into custody.

The roadway was reopened about 7:45 a.m.
