Major Horse Show Extends Its Stay in Tulsa

The Breeder’s Invitational horse show extends its agreement with Expo Square by three years.

Currently in its seventh year at Expo Square, the invitational promotes cutting, an even where a horse and rider separate a single animal from a herd of cattle. Executive Director Bob O’Bannon said the fairgrounds have been a good home so far.

"Those guys over there that run this place make it easy for me," O'Bannon said. "I just love it. I hope we're here for real, real, real long time. And 10 years is not impossible."

The event will come back to the fairgrounds until 2018, which will be its 10th year in Tulsa.

Ray Hoyt with Visit Tulsa said that’s good for more than just horse enthusiasts.

"Our community benefits in excess of $22 million a year from Bob's organization in economic impact," Hoyt said. "Over this next three years of the contract, it'll be close to $70 million of economic impact that his group will drive into the community.

"That isn't you or I who live here spending it down in the Brady District or the aquarium. That's people coming from outside of our market, staying in hotel rooms. That's found money, tax revenue for our city and our county."

The invitational is going on now. The final events this year are May 23.
