Lawton, OK – Crews contain blaze in SW Oklahoma
ELGIN, Okla. (AP) Fire crews have contained a blaze that forced the evacuation of about 30 homes and the closure of Interstate 44 for a time.
Comanche County spokesman Chris Killmer said there were no reports of injuries with the fire, which officials estimate charred about 400 acres Wednesday afternoon. He says residents were told to leave about 3 p.m. and were allowed to return home an hour later.
Killmer says there were no reports of injuries or structures burned.
He said firefighters received a call about 1:45 p.m. that a fire had broken out near U.S. 277. Killmer said the blaze was contained about 3:30 p.m.
Another fire in Comanche County burned between 1,500 and 2,000 acres in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.
There were no reports of injuries or structural damage.
