Oklahoma City, OK – Lottery winners to start research foundation

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A Muldrow couple that won millions while playing Powerball two years ago plan to start a charitable foundation and project with the OU Medical Center.

Don and Joyce Harvey will talk about their donation on Friday during an event at the OU Health Sciences Center. Plans call for the establishment of a mobile research unit that will study the root causes of obesity and diabetes in Oklahoma children.

Joyce Harvey bought the winning $105.8 million Powerball ticket in June 2007 at a service station in Roland, near the Arkansas state line. The couple chose to receive a $33.3 million lump-sum payment after taxes instead of the full amount paid out over 29 years.
