Looking at Lincoln and Darwin --- both born 200 years ago today.
Tulsa, Oklahoma – On this edition of our program: Two individuals who must rank among the greatest figures of the nineteenth century, men whose lives and accomplishments are still very much a part of our world today. Both Lincoln and Darwin were born exactly 200 years ago, on February 12th, 1809. And so, on today's show, a look at some little-known aspects of Lincoln life --- and then a discussion of some interesting new work stemming from Darwin's theory of evolution. Our first guest is the outstanding Lincoln scholar and Civil War historian Harold Holzer, whose new book is an anthology called "Lincoln as I Knew Him: Gossip, Tributes, and Revelations from His Best Friends and Worst Enemies." Our guest for the second half of the show is the paleontologist (at The Field Museum) and anatomy professor (at the University of Chicago) Neil Shubin. His latest book, just out in paperback, is "Your Inner Fish: A Journey into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of the Human Body."
