"Liquor By the Drink" in Kiowa County

By Associated Press

Hobart, OK – Mixed drinks flowing in Kiowa Co.

HOBART, Okla. (AP) For the first time in the history of Kiowa County, residents can saddle up to the bar and order a mixed drink.

The Longbranch Saloon in Hobart last week became the first establishment in the county to take advantage of a liquor-by-the-drink proposal approved by county voters last year. Fifty-four percent of voters approved the proposal in November's general election.

Officials with the Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission say the county is the 49th of 77 Oklahoma counties to approve liquor by the drink.

The 28 other so-called "dry" counties can sell low-point beer or have a license for a "bottle club," where members can bring their own bottles of alcohol under certain guidelines.
