OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Retail Liquor Association of Oklahoma is asking a judge to block a November ballot measure on whether strong beer and wine can be sold in grocery stores.
The group filed the lawsuit Wednesday in Oklahoma County District Court. The lawsuit claims that the proposed changes are unconstitutional because they would treat liquor-license holders less favorably than supermarkets or convenience stores.
The ballot measure would limit liquor store owners to two retail spirits licenses but sets no limits for grocery or convenience stores.
The lawsuit was filed against the Oklahoma State Election Board. A hearing on the liquor association's request for an injunction blocking the vote is set for Aug. 1 before Oklahoma County District Judge Aletia Haynes Timmons.
