On Lincoln's Birthday, We Chat with Historian Bruce Chadwick
By Rich Fisher
Tulsa, Oklahoma – There have, of course, been many, many books on the life, work, and presidency of Abraham Lincoln --- but few of them have really explored how incredible it was that he even got elected Chief Executive in the first place. On today's show, we speak with the noted historian and author Bruce Chadwick, whose latest book is "Lincoln for President: An Unlikely Candidate, An Audacious Strategy, and the Victory No One Saw Coming." As Chadwick explains on this edition of StudioTulsa, Lincoln overcame overwhelming odds to not only capture his party's nomination but to win the presidency. In doing so, the self-styled "Old Abe" employed a remarkably "modern" strategy that included the first media campaign blitz, outrageous convention tactics that originated the concept of "Chicago politics," and a deft manipulation of the Electoral College. It's all about Lincoln the shrewd candidate on this Lincoln's Birthday installment of our program.
