Lewis Avenue Closed for 20 Months

KWGS News File photo

Lewis Avenue at Interstate 44 in Tulsa is closed. It will remain closed for the next 20 months. The Lewis Avenue bridge over the expressway will be demolished. The expressway will be widened from four to six lanes.

It is the final phase of the massive I-44 widening project, which runs from the Arkansas River all the way east to near the Tulsa/Rogers County line.

Traffic on Lewis will be detoured to Peoria or Harvard during the project. This will mean extra congestion on those streets.

Tulsa Transit will detour Route 112 around the Lewis Avenue closing for its in- and out-bound buses during the construction period.
