Oklahoma City, OK – Ex-Okla. senator takes bribery case to Sup. Ct.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An attorney for a former state senator charged with bribery says a recent appellate court ruling that allowed the case to continue is wrong.

Defense attorney Robert McCampbell urged a state Supreme Court referee Tuesday to recommend that the high court send the case against former Sen. Debbe Leftwich of Oklahoma City back to the state Court of Criminal Appeals for a hearing.

The appeals court has refused to dismiss the charge against Leftwich.

The felony bribery charge against Leftwich and Rep. Randy Terrill alleges that Terrill offered Leftwich an $80,000-a-year job at the state Medical Examiner's Office in exchange for Leftwich not running for re-election to clear the way for another state representative to run.

Leftwich and Terrell have pleaded not guilty
