Leftwich Wants Charges Dropped

By AP

Oklahoma City, OK – x-Sen. Leftwich asks that charge be dismissed

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Former state Sen. Debbe Leftwich is asking an Oklahoma County District judge to dismiss a felony bribery charge against her.

Leftwich is charged with soliciting and/or accepting a bribe to withdraw as a candidate for re-election.

The Oklahoman reports that Leftwich claims absolute immunity from prosecution and that she can't be charged with accepting a bribe to withdraw because she never officially filed as a candidate.

Prosecutors say Leftwich was a candidate because she had accepted donations for re-election.

State Rep. Randy Terrill is charged with offering Leftwich an $80,000-a-year state job so Rep. Mike Christian could run for her Senate seat.

Leftwich and Terrill both say they are innocent. Christian is not charged. He initially announced he would run for the Senate but instead ran for and won re-election.
