League of Women Voters Hosting Local Candidate Forums in Lead Up to Election Day

The June 26 primaries are just three weeks away, and several local races will be on the ballot.

The League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Tulsa is hosting seven nonpartisan candidate forums for local contests starting Tuesday.

"It’s for the district attorney race, and then we have five district races for the House of Representatives and the Tulsa County Commissioner race for District 1," said League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Tulsa Board of Trustees Vice President Lynn Staggs.

The district attorney candidates forum will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Tulsa Community College Center for Creativity, 910 S Boston Ave. All five candidates — Ben Fu, Steve Kunzweiler, Jenny Proehl-Day and Tammy Westcott — have been invited.

The forums are a good way to get answers straight from the candidates.

"There’s a two-minute opening statement from each candidate, then we take questions from the audience," Staggs said. "They have a minute to respond — each candidate has a minute to respond to the same question — and then each candidate has two minutes for closing."

Staggs said being an informed citizen going into an election is important.

"Of course, exercising the right to vote is always the most important power that a registered voter has, so we definitely encourage voters to get out and vote," Staggs said.

Thursday is the Tulsa County Commissioner District 1 forum. It will start at 6 p.m. at Collinsville Library, 1223 W Main St. in Collinsville.

June 12 is the forum for House District 66. It's at 6 p.m. at Charles Page Library, 551 E Fourth St. in Sand Springs.

The forum for House District 71 is June 13 at 6 p.m. at the Tulsa Garden Center, 2435 S Peoria Ave.

On June 14 at 6 p.m., Helmerich Library at 5131 E 91st St. will host the House District 67 forum.

Union High Collegiate Academy at 6636 S Mingo Road is the site of the House District 79 forum. It's June 19 at 6 p.m.

The forum series wraps up June 20 with House District 77 candidates at the TWU Union Hall, 11945 E Pine St. It starts at 6 p.m.
