File photo

LAWTON, Okla. (AP) — A Lawton man has been ordered to stand trial in the stabbing death of his wife.

Comanche County District Judge Joe Reeves ruled Tuesday that there's sufficient evidence for Herbert Haynes to stand trial on a second-degree murder charge in the January death of his wife, Irene Haynes.

Authorities say Irene Haynes was found stabbed to death in a Lawton motel room.

According to The Lawton Constitution, Lawton Police Officer Jonathan Santiago testified that he found Herbert Haynes at the scene with blood on his hands, face and clothing. According to police, Haynes told officers that he stabbed his wife in self-defense.

Haynes is scheduled for a July 29 arraignment.
