Lawmakers to Study Guns on Campus

Copyright-Glock Talk

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Some Oklahoma lawmakers say they'll conduct a legislative study this year on concealed carry of firearms on college campuses.

The Oklahoman reports several Republican state legislators say they want college students and faculty to be able to carry guns on campuses. They say licensed gun owners should be able to protect themselves on state campuses.

But officials at Oklahoma's two largest campuses disagree.

Licensed owners currently cannot carry their guns on campus without the written consent of the college's president.

The University of Oklahoma president says placing guns on campus except in the hands of trained police officers would be a mistake. An Oklahoma State University official also disputes that crime rates are higher on campuses than the areas surrounding them.
