Latest on Mississippi College Shooting

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The latest on a shooting at Delta State University that left a professor dead (all times local):

11:53 a.m.

An official says a professor has been shot and killed inside an office at Delta State University in Mississippi.

Murray Roark, a deputy coroner in Bolivar County, says the professor killed Monday was a white man in his 50s. He would not identify the professor, who was killed in an office inside Jobe Hall.

University spokeswoman Jennifer Farish also declined to identify the dead person, saying it was still an "active situation." It's unclear whether anyone else is wounded.

The school was placed on lockdown when the shooting was first reported Monday. Students, faculty and staff were told to take shelter and stay away from windows.

The 3,500-student university is in Cleveland, in Mississippi's Delta region near the Arkansas-Mississippi state line.

An official says one person has died following a shooting at Delta State University, and the campus remains on lockdown after reports of an active shooter.

University spokeswoman Jennifer Farish said Monday she was not yet able to identify the dead person, saying it was still an "active situation." It's unclear whether anyone else is injured.

The lockdown began about 10:45 a.m. local time, with the university advising students, faculty and staff to take shelter and stay away from windows.

The university's Twitter account says the shooter was spotted near Jobe Hall.

State and local law enforcement agencies have responded.

Delta State University officials say they have locked down their campus after there were reports of an active shooter on campus.

University spokeswoman Jennifer Farish confirmed that the lock down began Monday morning and that students, faculty and staff are being advised to take shelter.

The university's Twitter account says the active shooter was spotted near Jobe Hall.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are responding.
