Las Vegas Guard from Turley

Tulsa, OK – Slain security guard began career in Oklahoma

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The brother of a security guard who was fatally shot when a disgruntled man opened fire at a Las Vegas federal building say he served as a Tulsa police officer in the 1960s.

Tulsa native Stanley Cooper died Monday after suspect Johnny Lee Wicks began shooting. Federal marshals fatally shot Wicks, who was said to be upset over Social Security benefits.

Bob Cooper told KOTV that he thought his 72-year-old brother would be safer working in the federal building than when he was patrolling the streets as a police officer.

Stan Cooper spent four years with the Tulsa Police Department then moved to Las Vegas, where served for 26 years before retiring.

Stan Cooper then worked for 16 years at AKAL Security, which assigned him to the federal building.
