Land Transfer Out of Money

A $1.9 billion effort to restore tribal control over land on American Indian reservations is expected to run out of money with millions of eligible acres still unaddressed. Officials have used the money to purchase parcels with multiple owners and transfer them to tribal governments to benefit all. More than 4 million acres potentially eligible for purchase will remain when the settlement money runs out in 2022, according to a government report obtained by The AP.
