DOVER, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says its agents are investigating the shooting and wounding of a suspected drunken driver in Dover.

The OSBI says 37-year-old Steven Andrew Smith of El Reno is recovering in an Oklahoma City hospital after being shot twice shortly before 6 p.m. Friday by the deputy.

The OSBI says Smith was stopped by Dover police about 5:45 p.m. Friday on Highway 81 and got out of his vehicle and pulled out a knife. The agency says Smith was shot after making "a threatening gesture" at the officers.

The names of the deputy who fired the shots and the officer who stopped Smith were not released.
