Kansas Plane Crash

By Associated Press

Baxter Springs, Kansas – Small plane makes emergency landing in SE Kansas

BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. (AP) Authorities say an Oklahoma pilot was unhurt after making an emergency landing of his small plane in a southeast Kansas field.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identifies the pilot in Tuesday morning's incident as 47-year-old Toby Angel, of Stillwater.

Trooper Sage Hill says Angel was at about 4,000 feet and beginning his approach to Missouri's Joplin Regional airport when the plane's engine "basically exploded."

Angel was forced to put down in a field just south of Baxter Springs, Kan. He was alone on the plane.
