Judge Rules: Fire Fighters Lawsuit

By KWGS News

Tulsa, OK – A Federal Judge in Tulsa sides with the mayor when it comes to firefighters campaigning in political contests.

The judge ruled firefighters may not campaign on behalf of municipal candidates.

The firefighter's local filed for an injunction that would have allowed them to campaign for candidates if they were off-duty. The union contended it's part of their first amendment rights.

Mayor Dewey Bartlett has backed a city charter clause saying employees can't be involved in campaigns.
