Judge to Decide on Delay in Oklahoma Family Stabbing Case

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A judge will decide whether to delay a preliminary hearing for two brothers charged in the fatal stabbings of their parents and three siblings to give the teens' legal team more time to prepare their case.

Sixteen-year-old Michael Bever and 18-year-old Robert Bever are due in court Friday for a preliminary hearing and prosecutors are prepared to call witnesses to testify in the mass killing case.

The Bevers are charged with first-degree murder in the July deaths of their family at their Broken Arrow home. They've pleaded not guilty.

Separately, the attorney for Michael Bever intends to argue that his client has been denied the chance to be classified as a juvenile delinquent or youthful offender under Oklahoma's juvenile code.

Special Judge Martha Rupp Carter will hear both matters.
